Rethinking University Campuses in Wartime: New Learning Spaces, Resilience and Continuity

What does a university campus need to become when learning must continue through war and repeated disruption? Drawing on projects at the private Kyiv School of Economics and the public Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, alongside examples from other Ukrainian universities, this session examines how teaching spaces, shared facilities and existing buildings are being rethought. It explores the changing balance between flexible learning, student life, shelter provision and energy autonomy, as well as the difficult decisions universities face about investment and speed of delivery. The discussion will offer lessons for European institutions adapting their estates to uncertain futures.
